do they offer self defense or kick boxing classes at ucla, i am looking to find info and i don’t think they do?

at my cc they offered them, so i hope they offer them at ucla (i understand that cc are for the community so that might be why they offer the classes there and not at a uni)

I’m sure that they do, UCLA is huge and has so many different types of classes. My sister who goes to Loyola Marymount in LA took a class around her school in self defense. If you can’t find one directly sponsored by UCLA just go take a local one. LA has some sketchy places and they offer tons of those classes.

By the way, nice choice of school!

kick boxing or regular boxing classes?

i need boxing or kick boxing classes for teens like 13 and older…los angeles…burbank..sherman oaks..vanuys. any of those places.. thnx

Depends on your goal, your purpose. A good martial arts school that teaches traditional karate from a Sensei who learned the art in Japan. It teaches self defense, respect, discipline, and good conditioning.

To take up boxing, go to a well known local boxing club and ask questions. They are in the yellow pages. Your local YMCA is another alternative, or even neighborhood Boys Club.

Some questions about kick boxing?

I’m an 18 year old girl, really thin and kind of scrawny, and I want to start taking kick boxing classes. However I’m not flexible at all and don’t have a lot of strength, so I don’t know if I can actually do it. Is it worth it for me to learn?

Kick boxing might be more appealing at first but I suggest that you look into the much more advanced and imo far better sport boxing by the way this is not the boxing/kickboxing section it is the boxing and only boxing section……

Tae kwon Do vs. a Kick boxing class?

I’m 22, and 104lbs. I’m little and I wanna be able to defend myself. I thought maybe kickboxing might be fun. I use to be In tae kwon do when I was 14 to 16. Is it anything like that? What should I expect when I start a kick boxing class? Do they make you spar with others on your first day?
I’m a girl btw…would they match me up with a guy to fight with?

for self defence do boxing

"I fear not the man who practices a 1000 kicks one time, i fear the man who practices one kick a 1000 times" – Bruce Lee

Boxing has fewer techniques, but you will be proficient with them and they will be second nature to you.

Self defence situations are violent and short, most last a few minutes, a few seconds even

Thats why its best to know a FEW techniques VERY WELL so the the natural instint will prevail over the shock fear confusion adrenaline, etc.

You dont want to think "Now lemme think, should i round house kick this guy? or rear naked choke him? or knee him?" when someone is charging at you full steam

You will want to INSTINCTIVLY drill your right hand thru his nose and hook your left hand into his chin to knock him out

I’m 14 and overweight and I would like to know if there are ny kick boxing classes for teens out there?

Will kick boxing cause me to lose my boobs?

February 15th, 2011

I am thinking of starting a kick boxing class, but I’m afraid too much cardio will make my boobs smaller. A friend of mine used to have C cups, and after starting a cardio routine, they became A cups. I’m only a B cup to start with, and I’m really afraid I’ll become an A or AA after starting this class. Is this something I should really be worried about?

I think you should be more worried about your physical health, rather than your boob size. There’s always pushup bras :]

How difficult is kick boxing?

I’d like to start taking a kick boxing class at a local gym but I’m a little intimidated. How difficult would it be to pick up?

With the exception of Matt Skelton, most kickboxers don’t make good boxers. Hatton was only a youth when he changed from kickboxing to boxing. At amateur club level at least, the kickboxers I’ve seen and spared with, can’t handle the sparring. The quickness and frequency of the punches are alien to them. – Skelton probably would have got knockouted by Bruno, and maybe Gary Mason.

Yeah, theres a massive difference between kickboxers at club level, and those who are at the top, or in the higher echelons. In boxing, at any level, you can’t go into a boxing ring and not expect to get punched in the face and in the guts if your in an open sparring session with a sparring partner.

Oh I do a bit of kickboxing to keep fit is completely different to being a boxer at any level.

While it is possible, normal healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week. You need to burn an extra 3500 calories to lose one pound of weight. I commend you on your efforts and just keep in mind that it took a long time to gain all of that weight so be patient as you try to lose. DON’T GET DISCOURAGED. Good luck on your efforts.

Edit: Not sure what the thumbs down is for but if it floats your boat, go for it.
