What should i do before joining a Boxing class?

Really want to join a boxing club in the area. Not the usual characteristics of a boxer, i.e. im fat and not a good runner. Gonna start weight-training my core and practice pushups (can only do 10). What else should i do to before joining a boxing club?

I’d say spend a few months (6) at a gym to get yourself into the kind of shape that will enable you to handle the tough training a successful boxer must go through. One of the personal trainers at a local gym can set up a workout for you.

BTW–I hope you can punch, because if you’re not very fast you’ll need to scare opponents with a good power punch.

Good luck.

What boxing weight class should I fight in?

April 13th, 2011

I have never boxed before, but am going to the Virginia Military Institute next fall and want to give their boxing club a try. I’m almost 5’10, weigh 145 pounds, have a 73′ reach and have room to put a lot of muscle on my frame. Can anyone give me some advice on what weight class I should aim for?

Well when you start training you’ll lose weight and gain muscle.

From there see what size and weight of opponents you work best when sparring against.

I’d image you should do well at Super Welterweight or maybe Junior Middleweight

Hope this helped!

I want to take some type of boxing class, but what type of class should i take?

I have no experience in boxing or fighting of any kind. And i mostly want to learn self defense. Also im a girl.
What type of class should i take? And what kind of places offer those kind of class’s?

what do you mean by Boxing Classes? I’m not sure by what you mean by different classes in boxing, but by hearing your question i’m thinking its where to learn boxing or how to fight. Mostly any gym or dojo will teach you how to fight and self defense. It doesn’t matter if you are a girl or not, silly. When fighting or training martial arts it doesn’t matter whether you’re a girl or not. But there are some gyms and dojo where they aren’t serious in teaching their students. You can go to a gym or a dojo and check for the programs that they provide. I’m not sure if this helps

Is $95 a month a reasonable amount for Muay Thai/Boxing class?

It’s about a little over a half an hour drive give or take to this hybrid training gym. They teach BJJ and other stuff but i’m only interested in stand up striking fighting. So the striking only class which is a mixture of Muay Thai and Boxing. Is $95 a month worth the commute and class?

Depends on what muay thai means to you, I guess.

Obviously, trainers who have won numerous awards and are more experienced will charge more- but, in return, you get better tuition. But do you really need that kind of quality trainer? Ask yourself this: do you want to compete or are you only learning from recreational means?

Secondly, if that is the only muay thai school near you and muay thai is the only art you want to learn, then you really do not have much choice. But have you ever considered any other art?

Personally, to me, it is really expensive for I do judo and boxing for $46 each month.

I recently found out that there is an LA boxing gym in my city and i was wondering if anyone could just let me know what they thought of that place.

But i found most of the classes to be more for MMA and kickboxing than for actually boxing. Thats why i went only a few times
