Hi everyone! I was wondering if the group fitness instructor certificate is a good career choice? I would like to teach classes like yoga, aerobics, kick boxing etc… could i teach other fitness classes? Is the pay good? do other fitness instructors do other jobs on the side? Thanks for the advice
Most gyms I’ve been too only require certs for personal training, even when leading group. Some (mostly corporate gyms) ask for group certs – mostly because their insurance carrier asks for it. If your looking from a income perspective, a Group cert does give you more options to enter into sports training, and sports rehabilitation.
"could i teach other fitness classes? " Simple answer is yes. SHOULD you is another question. Ive seen people teaching yoga and Pilates that, in my opinion, are unqualified. Taking a 6 month class in Yoga or Pilates, for example doesn’t make the person a subject expert. Unfortunately – it’s enough for the gym in order for them to create a class (and charge accordingly).
i dont want to take clases in valley fitness i want a profesional teaching me and just pure boxing
whats it called? boxing gym boxing class?
and how much should the price be?
go to www.google.com and type in boxing clubs in (your city and state) and try to find one in your area. the one i used to go to costed around $50 a month
I’ve seen and even answered this type of question before, but again it is interesting to know about how long have you trained adn what are your thoughts on your style and if you enjoy it. I’ll start.
My style began in the UK and is known as the Northern Ireland Tai-jutsu Association. Our master (who unfortunately passed away last year God rest him) was Soke Jack McKeown. He combined several styles that pre-dated the current trend of cross-training at these parts of the world and created a style with Muay Thai for striking, Jujitsu for grappling (striking elements too such as finger and ridge hand strikes) and techniques from other styles such as karate that are incorporated into our own for variations. It is a complete style that combines striking and grappling together for sport and practical self defense. Because of the name being a generic term for styles that use the whole body for defense and survival we also have the likes of acrobatic movements such as break falling, defensive rolling and being able to strike or defend in different situatons (sitting down, against a wall etc.). There is so much I cannot say because it takes experience but it has always been my greatest hobby and is a great way to build toughness, fitness in all aspects and make great friends. I am currently a 3rd kyu grade with my 2nd kyu grading in November which is like 6 hours long or so.
I enjoy this style because it was the first besides boxing that I decided to take up and I also enjoy the benefits that it is full contact and not point based plus classes are very low price for something that is authentic.
Ok your turn, I can answer any questions also for more information but log on to www.nitja.net to learn more.
Very nice answers, especially from Leo L.
Don’t hold back on the detail guys.
Neat question here, it gives people a chance to talk about themselves.
Well, I started out wrestling and boxing in HS and college. Then life got in the way. After getting married and having kids, I wanted to get back into some good exercise and wanted something I could do with the kids versus sitting and watching them play, so we got into WTF TKD. I was a little worried about being a living example of a bad Seinfeld episode but did it anyway. Upon reaching Blue belt in my TKD dojang, we could participate in Saturday Judo and Hapkido classes and have been doing that religiously. I am now a 1st Dan Black Belt in TKD and am still active in Judo and Hapkido. I really like the strong basis in one discipline and complementing it with others. I feel it makes me a more complete martial artist. I’m now working towards my 2nd Dan in TKD.
I can tell you that I’m in strong disagreement with those who don’t believe that kids should be in martial arts in a real school. The confidence, discipline and respect my kids have learned is enormous and they are better for participating. So what if a kid can reach a junior black belt level at 13. That doesn’t mean that they are a better fighter than a 30 year old green belt. It just means that they have the discipline and perseverence to stick out a 5 year goal and see it through.
Thanks for the opportunity.
Right now, other than light and super heavyweight, there are no "light -weight" or "super -weight" classes in MMA, but in boxing I think every uniquely named weight class (bantam, feather, welter, etc) have them. Do you think it will come to that point in MMA? And do you think the UFC will start adding more weight classes in the next 10 years?
MMA does have lighter weight classes. The WEC and Bellator, for example, both feature featherweights (145) and bantamweights (135). Some organizations do have flyweights (125), but they are not common.
In terms of adding weight classes, the only possible one I would like to see added to MMA would be a cruiserweight of about 235 pounds. I think 206-265 is too large a gap for the heavyweight division. Other than that, I think things are fine. Boxing is ridiculous with all its weight classes. The more weight classes you have, the less each belt means.
In terms of the UFC adding weight classes, I don’t see it happening in the near future. Zuffa owns both the UFC and WEC, so many think a merger is likely at some point. Zuffa, however, seems to be content with their current business model for the time being. It will probably happen at some point, but I wouldn’t expect anything for another couple years.
I’m doing a project for my marketing class in the US about whether Jenny Craig’s diet fiids would attract customers in England. These meals will ship to residence in England and need to be frozen/refrigerated. So I was wondering, do most people in the UK have refrigerators AND freezers in their home?
p.s. In case a refrigerator is called something else in the UK, it’s like an ice box where you can keep foods and drinks cold. A freezer, in America, is like an ice box except it keeps things frozen such as ice cubes or frozen meals. Thank you so much!
Yeah most of us Britain’s have fridges and freezers, The majority usually go for Fridge-Freezers (The type that have a fridge compartment at top and freezer at bottom or vice versa. There are also a lot of single person households that have stand along refrigerates with ice boxes in for freezing
Hello, I Want Too Learn Self Defence And Have 2 Classes Near-By, But Im Not Sure Which One Too Go 2 ,
Kick Boxing – http://www.sbba-martialarts.co.uk/Index.HTM
Or
Wing Chun Kuen ? – http://www.wingchun.co.uk/index.htm
I Want 2 Learn How To Fight + Defend MySelf …
Thanks
I would say it depends on your body type. Both arts are devastating fighting arts with each their own pros and cons.
Kick Boxing Pros:
* Will help you get into great shape (the art of fighting without fighting lol)
* Suits those that are strong as it is a striking art
cons:
* As its a striking art it will prove less effective against someone who is considerably more better built (rugged) than yourself
Wing Chun:
* Effective self defence art for all ages, shapes and sizes (after all it was created by a lady!!)
* Teaches more than just striking as it has reversals, utilising leverage etc…
cons:
Won’t get you as fit as Kick boxing, however it still improves general strength and fitness just not as much as Kick boxing.
As I said both are good just depends on your own body type and what you want to get out of it.
I am a student in Chicago,Il and im looking to get in shape and be challenged so where should i go
P.S I live in Albany Park,so im not trying to go very far
Albany Park is probably one of the best place to live in Chicago. It really depends on which street you live. I know that there is a big Gym near Montrose and Broadway, if you have a bike or car, then it should be only min way. its a big place where the do offer beginner to all leve kick boxing classes. I went their when I was in High School. but the place was 2 expensive and was not 18 back then. And now I am too lazy and busy to do any workout, haha. Good luck, there are many more places around Albany park.
i just started training for boxing this tuesday and went again on friday i go twice a week because thats all i can really afford to spend do i need to go three times a week or is two good enough also i got personal fitness class at my school so i do weight lifiting and running for about an hour and im joining the swim team so should that help make up for only going twice a week
and i aint got a bag at my house the only type of equipment i got is a jump rope i use that and shadow boxing when im at home training for boxin
I alternate strength training one day with speed training the next day, taking Sunday off altogether. Strength days I do push ups, abdominal workout, pull ups, balance exercises (that work the legs), lift weights-if you don’t have weights use paint buckets, rocks, logs, etc. If you have weights, the leg curl, leg press, dumbbell press, lat pulldown, and use 10 or 15 pound weights shadowboxing with them to build handspeed. Speed days I do shadowboxing practicing both offensive combos and defensive positioning, speedbag, jumprope for either 10 or 15 minutes, a dozen fartlek runs of about 60 yards each, and jumping jacks and stretches for cool down.
Today I am going to a Fight School that offers Martial Arts , Kick Boxing ,and Boxing. I am interested in Kick Boxing which they offer it 2 days a week , so if I can get deal of Kick Boxing combine with something else so I can increase working from 2 days to 4day I will take it. I am a female with a meduim frame 5’1 and 190 pounds I want to drop down to 120-130 but I want an aggressive form of exercise that can tone me while I burn fat. I am also aware that I have to be eating healthy alway with exercising.
In six months yes ma’am you can.Walking, dieting plus kick boxing training will do it.Good luck.
